Reach for the Stars

I met with Junior Mint’s "Quest" teacher this morning, (Quest is a program for bright students) and she thinks he’s awesome. *big grin* She told me that JM shows signs of being a “gifted” child, and went on to describe his art projects, storytelling and analytical abilities that he has shown in class during the year.

She was impressed with his ability to remove himself from distractions and work independently. We agreed that he has strong opinions and has a wealth of knowledge on a large variety of topics.

Do I need to tell you that I was one proud Mommy when I left that Conference?

You can never take too much time to read and talk to your child…it’s amazing the things that they are learning from you. Even seemingly insignificant questions can open huge doors in the mind of a child.

This meeting not only reinforced the work that JM has been doing, it reinforced that the time I and many others have invested in the details have been well spent.

Congratulations! Be proud of your efforts. Genetics do part of it, but caring about your kid's education is at least as important.

Flash forward to high school. MDC - My Darling Child, was a varsity cheerleader, but she was also on the school Mock Trial team and a couple of other educational extra activities. She quit cheerleading in mid-season after the coach told her she had her priorities screwed up because she skipped cheerleading practice to compete in the state Mock Trial competition. We had the coach and 2 "cheer parents" on our front doorstep. How could we "possibly let her stop something so important to her social success as cheerleading?"

Today she's one of four out of sixteen girls that finished college, and one of two that did it on scholarships. And some of these parents STILL think they were right.

Sorry, Rant over. Way to go with your munchkin! Congratulations again.

Thanks sooooo much williebee. I like to hear a stories where kids have made good decisions.

Congratulations to you and your Daughter for putting substance over style... There can be alot of pressure on women, even in today's society, to learn the "social graces" instead of using their brains.
